Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that Israel does not wish to engage in a war against Hezbollah in Lebanon, but the Israeli army is ready for war.
Israeli media quoted the minister as saying yesterday, Friday, during a visit to the troops near the northern border of the occupied territories (Israel) with Lebanon: "We are working on a political solution. This is always the best option... We are not looking for war, but we are ready for it."
He added: "If Hezbollah chooses war, we know what to do... If they choose peace, we will respond appropriately."
Since the beginning of the Gaza war, there has been a daily exchange of fire between the Israeli army and Hezbollah in the border area between Israel and Lebanon.
The intensity of fighting has escalated significantly in recent days, and many countries, including Germany, have urged their citizens to leave Lebanon.
