The Minister of Sport and Physical Activity, Carla Qualtrough, appointed a former Chief Justice of the Ontario Court of Justice to lead a three-person committee investigating systemic abuses in sport.

She will be joined by Liz Masonov on the Future of Sport in Canada committee, Noni Klassen, Director of Education at the Canadian Centre for Child Protection, and Dr. Andrew Pye, a sports medicine and health promotion expert.

Qualtrough, who announced the committee last December, stated that the 18-month committee will examine the sports system in Canada to ensure a safe environment for Canadian athletes.

Masonov said, "The ultimate goal is to listen to Canadians first and foremost, to hear from various organizations and consult with provinces and territories," adding that concrete recommendations will be presented to the federal government at the end of the listening process.

The committee will prepare two reports, an initial report and a final report expected to be released 18 months from now.
