Canada said that a potential Israeli ground attack on Rafah would be devastating for the Palestinians, joining several countries that have urged Israel not to invade the area located in the southern Gaza Strip.
Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly told reporters, “I am very concerned about what is happening in Gaza, especially Rafah; the operation will be devastating. It is devastating for the Palestinians and anyone seeking shelter.”
Joly said she will hold talks with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington on Tuesday.
During his meeting with Jordanian King Abdullah II, the U.S. President reiterated the “need to protect” Palestinian civilians in Rafah if Israel launches a ground military operation in the city located in the southern Gaza Strip.
