The Congo is witnessing killings and gunfire from armed individuals, as well as theft and looting in various Congolese cities, which has caused a state of anxiety among citizens, especially after two Chinese nationals, a Ghanaian, and a Congolese soldier were killed by armed individuals in the Ngandja sector of the Fizi region in South Kivu province in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The leader of the Makongo village located 5 km from the site of the attack, Alemassi Denis, stated that 4 people were killed, including two Chinese nationals, a Ghanaian, and a soldier in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's forces, indicating that the victims were employees of a Chinese mining company in Moinja, while noting that there are other individuals who were injured and were taken to a health center for treatment.
He continued that the incident occurred when the victims were surprised by gunfire targeting the vehicle they were riding in, pointing out that security forces arrested one of the attackers minutes after the incident, and that investigations are ongoing to identify the assailants.
It is worth noting that the regions of Fizi, Uvira, and Moinja in South Kivu province have been the most affected by the activities of armed groups for several decades.
South Kivu province is witnessing recurring confrontations and disputes between local residents and Chinese mining companies.
