Ottawa police said the two men who were killed in an evening shooting outside a conference center in the southern part of Ottawa were from Toronto and were attending a wedding at the time of the shooting.

Emergency crews responded to reports of gunfire at 2900 Gifford Drive, near Uplands Drive and Hunt Club Road, at 10:20 p.m. on Saturday. Police said the shooting occurred outside the Infinity Conference Centre, where six other people were injured. Residents living nearby reported hearing between 20 and 25 gunshots.

Police said in a news release Sunday morning: “The victims were attending a wedding at the conference center at 2900 Gifford Drive when the shooting occurred outside the facility.”

In a press release Sunday afternoon, police identified the victims as Saeed Mohammed Ali, 26, and Abdul Shakur Abdi Daher, 29. Both were from Toronto.

No one has been arrested in connection with the shooting, and police have not yet provided a description of the suspect. However, police say there is currently no indication that this attack was motivated by hate.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking any witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information can contact the Ottawa Police Service's homicide unit at 613-236-1222, extension 5493.

This marks the eleventh and twelfth homicide in Ottawa for 2023.

Police had no further details about the six people who were injured.

In a statement to CTV News Ottawa, the Infinity Conference Centre said: "An incident that can only be described as a tragedy occurred last night. Our hearts break for the victims and their families. The members of the Infinity Conference Centre are actively assisting local authorities in their investigations. No further comments will be made as the investigation continues."
