British Treasury Minister Jeremy Hunt said that the UK government is still on track to fulfill its pledge to halve headline inflation this year and will do everything it can to fix the crumbling schools in the country.

Hunt said on the BBC program "Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg" that the government is "making the right long-term decisions for the British economy," according to Bloomberg News today, Sunday.

Hunt added, "This is what we are doing, and we can see that the plan is working."

Hunt's remarks came after a statement was released ahead of Parliament's return tomorrow, Monday, stating that the government will achieve its goal of bringing inflation down to around 5% by the end of the year.

The rise in consumer prices following the COVID pandemic and the outbreak of war in Ukraine pushed inflation to its highest level in four decades, at 11.1% last year.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has also pledged to reduce inflation to around 5% this year, one of the key promises on which he said voters should judge his government when they go to the polls in elections scheduled to take place by January 2025.

Hunt clarified that the current inflation rate is 6.8%, and there may be another "dip" before it falls to the target by the end of the year.
