The police said that two people were attacked by a man with a sword on the beach in Prince Edward Island on Friday evening.

In a press release on Saturday, the police stated that they responded to a report of the attack at 9:30 PM, adding that they arrived at the scene after 10 minutes and were able to assist the victims, but the suspect fled the area on foot.

According to the police, an unknown man wearing a dark surgical mask and carrying a sword approached three people and allegedly attacked the woman and the young man before fleeing.

The police said that eyewitnesses in the area reported seeing the man pass through the backyards after the incident, prompting them to issue an alert regarding regional emergency measures for the area surrounding Seacow Pond, and asked residents to lock their doors and stay away from the windows.

At around 1:55 AM on Saturday, the police stated that they followed up on several tips and continue to investigate.

The alert was lifted after an hour as the police said, "There does not appear to be an immediate threat to the public."

According to the press release, the motive behind the attack remains unclear.

The police also described the man as wearing a dark mask and possibly a green jacket with a hood.

In an update on Sunday, the police said they are working to follow up on the tips, where ground search and rescue and the police canine unit conducted searches in the area for evidence.

The police are asking residents to "remain vigilant" and keep their doors locked as the investigation continues.

Anyone with information about the incident is also asked to contact the West Prince RCMP at 902-853-9300, or reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
