A high-level Egyptian source stated on Tuesday that there is no truth to what Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz claimed regarding Egypt's responsibility for closing the Rafah crossing, asserting that the closure is due to the unjustified escalation by Israel in the Palestinian city of Rafah.

The source added, according to Sky News Arabia: "Egypt has informed Israel of the seriousness of its continued prevention of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip."

The Israeli Foreign Minister requested Egypt to reopen the Rafah crossing in order to transfer humanitarian goods and supplies to Gaza - despite the activity of the Israeli army in the area.

Yisrael Katz stated that he spoke yesterday with his counterparts in Britain and Germany, David Cameron and Annalena Baerbock, "about the necessity of convincing Egypt to reopen the Rafah crossing to allow the continued transfer of humanitarian aid to Gaza."

He added that "the world imposes on Israel the responsibility for the humanitarian issue, but the key to preventing a crisis in Gaza is now in the hands of our Egyptian friends."

He continued: "Hamas will not control the crossing; this is a security necessity we will not compromise on."

The Egyptian authorities have refused to reopen their borders with Gaza after Israeli forces took control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing.

An Egyptian official previously stated: "As long as Israeli forces remain at the Rafah crossing, Egypt will not send a single truck to Rafah."

A few days ago, Egypt announced its intention to support South Africa's case before the International Court of Justice, in which it accuses Israel of committing genocide in the Gaza Strip.

In this context, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry affirmed his country's firm rejection of the Israeli side's policy of distorting facts and shirking responsibility, emphasizing that Israel is the sole responsible party for the humanitarian disaster facing Palestinians in the Gaza Strip currently.

Shoukry's remarks came in response to statements made by Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz demanding the reopening of the Rafah crossing and blaming Egypt for preventing a humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

The Foreign Minister considered the Israeli control over the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing, and the Israeli military operations in the vicinity of the crossing that threaten the lives of relief workers and truck drivers, to be the main reason for the inability to deliver aid through the crossing.

The Foreign Minister strongly condemned the desperate attempts by the Israeli side to place the responsibility for the unprecedented humanitarian crisis facing the Gaza Strip on Egypt, which is a direct result of the indiscriminate Israeli assaults against Palestinians for over 7 months, claiming the lives of more than 35,000 citizens, most of whom are women and children.

The Israeli Foreign Minister was called upon to assume its legal responsibilities as the occupying power by allowing aid to enter through the land crossings under its control.
