France started the defense of its title as world champion with a deserved victory over Australia by four goals to one, on Tuesday, within the competitions of Group D in the current World Cup edition held in Qatar.

The start of the match at "Al Janoub" Stadium was surprising with the Australian team taking an early lead with a goal by Greg Goodwin in the 9th minute, capitalizing on a cross from Matthew Allan, which he followed up strongly out of the reach of French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

The sudden goal caused the French to lose focus, before midfielder Adrien Rabiot brought his teammates back into the game with an equalizing goal at the 27th minute with a beautiful header following a pass from Theo Hernandez.

Only 5 minutes later, the "Les Bleus" team turned the result in their favor with a second goal signed by striker Olivier Giroud, who converted with his foot a pass delivered to him by Rabiot from the right side of the Australian defense.

The French team continued its dominance in the second half and added a third goal in the 68th minute following a lofted ball from Ousmane Dembele into the Australian penalty area, where Kylian Mbappe rose and directed it with his head into the net.

At the 71st minute, Mbappe penetrated the right side of the Australian defense and then sent a ball that Giroud received with another header, scoring his second goal and the fourth for his country, equaling his fellow countryman Thierry Henry's record as the top scorer for the French national team in history with 51 goals.

With this, France topped the standings with 3 points, followed by Tunisia and Denmark in second and third places with one point each, while Australia remains in fourth and last place with zero points.
