San Jose - Police reported that a three-month-old baby who was abducted from his home in the San Francisco Bay area on Tuesday was found and three suspects were arrested.
Officials from the San Jose Police Department said during a press conference that the baby, Brandon Coveillar, was unharmed but was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
"This incident is every parent's worst nightmare." San Jose Police Chief Anthony Mata said, "We are lucky that it resulted in a positive outcome," refusing to disclose details about where the child was found or the identities of the three people detained.
The baby was taken on Monday from his apartment in San Jose by a man seen in a video walking away with the baby in a carrier.
Paul Joseph, Assistant Chief of San Jose Police, said police believe they have arrested the man who appeared in the video, one of the three detained.
A woman who was with the baby’s grandmother before the abduction was also arrested, said San Jose Police spokesperson Christian Camarillo to journalists.
He said: "This person was with the grandmother yesterday when they went shopping, was present in the residential complex when that happened." "There were some inconsistencies with what they told us."
Joseph did not provide details about the third suspect. He pointed out that initial investigations indicated a connection between the kidnappers and the family.
Joseph said: "We know there is some connection to the family, but we don’t know exactly what that relationship is."
The police posted a video on Monday showing the man calmly walking on the sidewalk holding the baby carrier covered with a white blanket.
Camarillo told journalists on Monday that the baby’s grandmother reported the abduction.
"According to the grandmother, she returned home to this apartment. Camarillo said... She placed the baby in the apartment, went downstairs to unload some groceries. During that short period of time, someone entered the apartment... and left with the baby."
