The Canadian Transport Agency recalled several vehicles last week, including Kia, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Porsche.

Here's a look at the affected vehicles:

Kia

The Canadian Transport Agency issued a recall on June 20 for various models of Kia vehicles due to a brake system that may cause an electrical short and result in a fire. The ministry stated that nearly 280,000 vehicles were affected.

The models include the Kia Forte, Optima, Soul, Sportage, and seven other variants from 2010 to 2017.

The recall indicated that the hydraulic brake control unit could short circuit and cause a fire while the vehicle is parked and turned off.

Kia recommends drivers park their vehicles outside, away from other vehicles or buildings, until the repairs for the recalled vehicles are completed.

Toyota

The Canadian Transport Agency issued a recall on June 21 for 2023 Toyota Crown models due to a defect in the front and rear view cameras.

The recall stated that the front and rear view cameras may not have been soldered properly, and over time, water could leak into them and cause a short circuit.

The agency added that the images may not display correctly or may not display at all.

This could increase the risk of an accident, as incorrect display may reduce the driver's ability to see behind the vehicle when reversing.

The Canadian Transport Agency indicated that more than 600 vehicles were affected.

Volkswagen

The Canadian Transport Agency issued a recall on June 21 for Volkswagen Atlas vehicles and Atlas Cross Sport models due to a defect in the passenger airbag system.

The affected model years for Atlas are from 2021 to 2024, and for Atlas Cross Sport models, from 2020 to 2024. Approximately 36,000 vehicles are affected.

The recall noted that the passenger seatbelt detection system (PODS) may malfunction, causing the airbag system to disable the front passenger airbag when someone is sitting.

The message stated: "This issue may cause a warning light on the dashboard to appear and emit a warning sound. The airbag indicator light will display "Disable Passenger Airbag." It warned against using the front passenger seat in the event of receiving the error message or disabling the airbag.

The Canadian Transport Agency stated that this could increase the risk of injury to a passenger in a crash.

The department also issued recalls for Audi vehicles owned by the Volkswagen automotive group on Tuesday, due to potential brake fluid leakage.

The recall indicated that Audi E-Tron GTs and RS E-Tron GTs from model years 2022 to 2024 may be affected, with approximately 750 vehicles impacted by the recall.

It warned that the front brake hoses may fail and cause brake fluid leakage, resulting in reduced braking performance.

"You may experience a change in brake pedal feel and travel."

Reduced braking can lead to longer stopping distances and increased risk of collision.

Porsche

The Canadian Transport Agency issued nearly 10 recalls on June 20 for Porsche vehicles due to issues with brakes, airbags, and lights.

The recalls affect Porsche Taycan models, including Taycan, Taycan Cross Turismo, Taycan Cross Turismo Turbo, and Taycan Turbo.

The model years affected by the recalls generally range from 2020 to 2024.

One of the recalls, which affected the largest number of vehicles, stated that potential brake fluid leakage could cause a change in brake pedal feel and travel. This results in reduced braking performance, which may increase the risk of an accident.

The recall stated that 3,205 vehicles were affected.

Other recalls include high-voltage batteries that may pose a fire risk and activation of hazard warning lights in non-emergency situations, which could confuse other drivers and increase the risk of a crash.

More information regarding individual model recalls can be found in the federal government's recall database.
