A grand jury in New York yesterday, Thursday, indicted former US President Donald Trump in the case of "paying money to a pornographic film actress," making him the first former president to be charged with a felony.

For his part, Trump considered that "this is a political persecution and the highest level of election interference in history," according to his lawyer.

A grand jury in New York voted to indict Donald Trump regarding payments made to buy the silence of a porn star before the 2016 elections, which the former US president denied.

In the same context, Trump's lawyer told the French news agency that the former US president is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

The attorney general also emphasized on Thursday the indictment of the former president, stating that his office contacted Trump's lawyers to "coordinate his surrender (...) for his appearance to hear the charges."

A statement from the spokesman of the Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said that "guidance will be provided when the indictment date is chosen," adding that the indictment decision remains sealed.

For his part, Trump rejected the charges against him on Thursday, and a statement of his included that "this is a political persecution and the highest level of election interference in history," adding, "I believe this prosecution will backfire on Joe Biden."
