The Canadian National Parks Administration stated in a statement that it found two people dead after being attacked by a grizzly bear in Banff National Park located in Alberta province.
The administration added in its statement on Saturday evening that it received a notification late Friday night from one of the GPS devices indicating a bear attack originating within Banff National Park near the Red Deer River Valley west of the Ya Ha Tinda Ranch.
It stated that the weather conditions at that time did not allow for the use of helicopters, which prompted the emergency team to travel by land throughout the night until they reached the site.
The team arrived early Sunday morning at the site where it discovered the deaths of two individuals. The administration said the team subsequently carried out a humane killing of the bear after it exhibited aggressive behavior.
It added that it was decided to close the area surrounding the Red Deer Valley and Panther until further notice.
Banff National Park attracts over four million visitors each year and is home to both grizzly and black bear species.
