The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Sunday that his country needs time and suitable conditions to intervene militarily again to strike militants on its southern borders. He also commented on the Ankara attack, stating that "terrorist organizations will never achieve their goal."

Erdoğan added during his speech at the opening of the new legislative session of the parliament that militants "should remember that we may come to them unexpectedly."

He continued, saying, "Turkey has established a security strip on its southern border with a depth of 30 kilometers to ensure its security," noting that "when the conditions are suitable, we will intervene militarily again to strike the terrorists in their home turf."

Drafting a new civil constitution for the country...

On another note, the Turkish president stated that he aims to draft a new civil constitution for the country, calling all political parties to consider participating in this.

He said, "The current constitution does not fit the new Turkey; we aim to draft a constitution worthy of the centennial of second Turkey."

Regarding the relationship with the European Union, Erdoğan said that his country has fulfilled its commitments to the EU, but the EU has not fulfilled its commitments in return.

He asserted that Turkey will not make new concessions to join it, and there is no objection from Ankara if the EU decides to cancel Turkey's membership project.

He also added, "We do not need EU membership."

Erdoğan arrived at the parliament's headquarters in the capital Ankara hours after a suicide attack targeted the security directorate headquarters, injuring two officers.

In response to the attack, the Turkish president stated, "The operation that took place this morning, during which two attackers were neutralized due to the timely intervention of our security forces, represents the last breaths of terrorism."

He added, "The scoundrels who targeted the safety and security of our citizens did not succeed in their goal, and they will never succeed."

The Justice and Development Party controls 268 seats in the 600-member parliament.
