Supporters of the British monarchy gathered with their pets outside Buckingham Palace to commemorate the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

About 20 Welsh corgi enthusiasts dressed their pets in crowns and royal outfits and showcased them outside the palace in central London in honor of Elizabeth, who was known for her love of this breed of dogs. Corgis were her constant companions since childhood, and she owned around 30 of them throughout her life.

Generations of corgi dogs descend from Susan, a corgi that was gifted to the Queen on her eighteenth birthday.

Agatha Cruerier Gilbert, who organized today's event, explained that she would like to see a corgi dog parade held every year in memory of Elizabeth, adding: "I can't think of a better way to remember her than through her dogs, from the breed she loved and cherished throughout her life.. So, we decided to do this this year and we will do it every year in her memory," according to the Associated Press.

September 8 marks the first anniversary of the Queen's death at the age of 96 at her Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where she remained queen on the throne of the country for 70 years, holding the longest reign in Britain.
