A doctor at Al-Shifa Hospital, the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip, revealed that they wrap premature babies in thermal paper "foil paper" and place them next to hot water in a desperate attempt to keep them alive, while Israel continues to strike the streets surrounding the hospital, fuel has run out, power is cut off, and the medical facility has become unable to operate.
CNN reported that the staff at Al-Shifa Hospital were struggling to keep the newborns alive after oxygen supplies ran out and had to manually transfer the babies from the incubator unit of the neonatal unit to another part of the hospital.
The hospital's medical director, Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, was quoted saying that he was with the babies, and they were exposed because they were taken out of the incubators, and doctors wrapped them in aluminum foil and placed them next to hot water so they could be warmed.
CNN said that many images showed the infants after being moved from the incubators and gathered together in one bed.
The doctor said many children died while being in the intensive care unit and incubator during the last day amid continuous Israeli shelling and the siege of Gaza.
CNN mentioned that the conditions at Al-Shifa Hospital have deteriorated to a catastrophic state in recent days, as staff, patients, and thousands of displaced persons residing at the hospital are trapped inside due to the fighting, according to relief agencies and health officials in the sector.
