Conservative candidate Jamieljevani celebrated his victory in the Ontario election in Durham by thanking his allies and attacking his opponents from the "Liberal elite," whom he says make life more difficult and more expensive for the working class.
Preliminary results of the Canadian election showed that Jefani is preparing to take a seat in the House of Commons after the by-election held on Monday.
Jefani, a lawyer and commentator, received more than 55 percent of the votes with almost all polls appearing until late Monday evening.
Liberal candidate Robert Rock took the second largest number of votes, while New Democratic Party candidate Chris Borgia took third place.
While Durham is a conservative stronghold, it is one of the largest margins of victory the conservatives have achieved in the past twenty years.
Jefani’s success comes as the Conservative Party continues to rise in the polls ahead of the ruling Liberal Party, while the conservatives push a message promising "cutting taxes, building homes, fixing the budget, and stopping crime."
In his victory speech at Chuck’s Roadhouse Bar & Grill in Curtain, Ontario, Jefani said the Conservative Party he belongs to will best represent the values of communities in the upcoming federal election, which must take place by the fall of 2025. Under the leadership of Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, he said the party "will bring change to this country."
Jefani said: "When we talk about what is happening in the country now, I think the liberal elites are betraying the working class in this country, betraying the middle class, and betraying the working class."
Jefani said these liberal elites include Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the Liberal Party, major banks, and telecommunications companies that "raise the cost of everything."
He also pointed to the Ministry of Education under Ontario Premier Doug Ford. In 2022, Jefani resigned as Ontario’s first Community Opportunities Advocate after raising concerns that some COVID-19 pandemic policies followed by the Progressive Conservative government had a negative impact on marginalized youth and their parents.

Jefani also criticized other "liberal elites" he said include activists and academics "undermining law enforcement and public safety."
Jefani said: "They are easy to spot," urging his rally of supporters to look for people pushing "diversity, equity, and inclusion" and "environmental, social, and governance" initiatives while raising the cost of living. "
He said: "They are the people who are good at signaling and participating in performance theater while your life gets harder."
"They are the people who serve the interests of a lucky few and make you feel like a bad person because you expect our country to work for you, and they are wrong."
The by-election in Durham was held to replace former Conservative Party leader Erin O'Toole, who served as official opposition leader from August 2020 until February 2022, and left her seat last spring.
Durham has long been a conservative stronghold, with the Conservative Party representing this trend over the past twenty years.
The restaurant was packed with Jefani's victory word, as his supporters and staff cheered from wall to wall.
Many members of his future caucus were also present to show their support, including Ontario MPP Michelle Ferreri, who represents the Peterborough-Kawartha riding, and Ontario MPP Colin Carrie, who represents Oshawa.
Poilievre celebrated the victory on X, formerly known as Twitter, by congratulating Jefani online.
At the end of his 10-minute speech, someone handed Jefani a wrestling belt. He put it on his shoulder and shouted: Let’s go!
