The start date of the trial of former US President Donald Trump on charges of attempting to falsify election results has been postponed.
The court in the capital, Washington, announced on Friday that the start of the trial, which was scheduled for March 4, will be delayed due to unresolved legal issues. A new date has not yet been set.
Trump, who seeks the Republican Party’s nomination for the presidential election scheduled for next November, faces four criminal trials including 91 separate charges.
In the case filed in Washington, Trump (77 years old) was federally charged for his efforts to retrospectively overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
Trump lost the election to his Democratic rival Joe Biden, but he refused to acknowledge his defeat. At that time, Trump tried in various ways to overturn the election result.
His campaign culminated in the unprecedented violent attack by his supporters on the US Capitol building on January 6, 2021.
