The World Health Organization said on Friday that more than 100,000 residents of the Gaza Strip have been injured, lost, or killed as the situation in the Strip deteriorates. This number represents 4.3% of the total population of the Strip, which is 2.3 million people.
During a weekly United Nations press conference via video from Jerusalem, Richard Pebrukorn, the World Health Organization representative for the occupied Palestinian territories, said the rest of the population is facing very poor conditions and struggling to secure their basic daily needs of safety, food, health, and warmth.
He said that central Gaza is witnessing an escalation in hostilities, which increases the inaccessibility to existing health facilities.
Pebrukorn expressed deep concern about the inaccessibility of hospitals to patients and healthcare workers, stating that 13 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza are partially operational, and only 13 out of 73 primary healthcare centers are functioning.
