The authorities in England have made decisions to cancel or delay hundreds of flights.
British Transport Secretary Mark Harper said on Tuesday that resolving the widespread flight disruption to and from the country will take days after air traffic control systems experienced a technical problem.
The authorities canceled or delayed hundreds of flights on Monday, one of the busiest travel days of the week in the country, after air traffic controllers had to revert to manual systems.
Harper added that government officials do not believe the technical problem is the result of a cyber attack.
He told the BBC on Tuesday, "There will be some impact today, and I think it will continue for a few more days as airlines bring their aircraft and services back to normal."
This disruption led to delays and cancellations of hundreds of flights at several UK airports.
The issue emerged during the summer bank holiday on Monday, which is one of the busiest days of the year for air travel, according to the Associated Press.
Flight analytics company Cirium reported that 232 flights were canceled by Monday afternoon that were scheduled to depart from UK airports, in addition to 271 incoming flights being canceled.
Dozens of flights were also canceled at Heathrow Airport, the busiest airport in Europe, along with at least 32 outgoing flights also being canceled from Heathrow on Tuesday, and authorities canceled 31 incoming flights.
The management of Gatwick Airport, the second busiest airport in London, stated that they intend to operate a normal flight schedule on Tuesday, but advised passengers to check with airlines before traveling to the airport.
