Nearly half of Canadians, or 45 percent, confirmed that rising prices "significantly affect" their ability to meet daily expenses, which is a 12 percentage point increase from the past two years, according to a study conducted by Statistics Canada.
The sentiment was more prevalent among younger people, who were more likely to report daily financial stress and expectations of getting food from a food bank. Among those who said they feel stressed about money "most days," only one in five reported a high level of life satisfaction.
The study, which gathered responses from Canadians in the spring, was published on Thursday.
