Traders and analysts said that the closure of railways in Canada may still delay the loading of some grain vessels at the ports on the country's west coast, despite the government's efforts to end the stoppage on the two largest railway lines in the country.

Analysts mentioned, according to Reuters, that exporters may impose delay fines on the ships that could total tens of thousands of dollars daily if the ships remain idle waiting for supplies.

Although workers at the Canadian National Railway returned to work on Friday, their union announced that they would strike on Monday and challenge the constitutionality of the government's move to end the strike.

The strike last Thursday was the first time both railway lines were closed simultaneously.

The executive director of the U.S.-based Soy Transportation Coalition, Mike Steenhoek, stated: "The rail situation in Canada remains extremely volatile and uncertain."

Rail delays threaten the flow of grain from Canada to export terminals as farmers begin to harvest their crops.

If disruptions persist, sales of grain reserved for loading in the fall are also at risk of cancellation.
