Krista DiGiacomo won Canada's first gold medal at the Paris Olympics by winning the judo competition under 57 kg.
DiGiacomo, the world number one in judo, defeated Mimi Huh in the final when the South Korean flag was raised due to a false attack in overtime, giving her a third penalty that ended the match.
This was a redemption for DiGiacomo, who lost to Huh in the under 57 kg final at the 2024 World Championships.
DiGiacomo, a two-time world champion, is the first Canadian Olympic champion in judo.
She advanced to the final by defeating fan-favorite Sarah Léonie Cysique from France.
Cysique continued her dominance over Iteiri Liparteliani from Georgia to win the bronze medal.
