Canadian airlines clarified that travelers will not see their flight times affected by the total solar eclipse on Monday, although passengers should protect their eyes during the astronomical event.

Air Canada stated that there will be no operational impacts when the moon casts its shadow on the sun in parts of eastern Canada on Monday afternoon, although it issued a reminder to staff not to look directly at the eclipse while it is happening.

WestJet also confirmed that it has taken unspecified safety precautions, and passengers hoping to catch a glimpse of the shaded sun from the window should bring their own protective equipment to prevent eye damage.

Meanwhile, Air Transat will instruct passengers to keep their window blinds closed.

Meanwhile, the Canadian Transportation Agency issued a warning on Tuesday to remind industry workers that there will be a "rapid onset of darkness and twilight conditions" that could affect pilots.

In an email, a spokesperson for the government agency said that pilots who are not authorized to fly when conditions affect visibility may face restrictions during the eclipse, but the Canadian Transportation Agency says these are a minority.

Mason Fraser, who teaches at Seneca Polytechnic School of Aviation, said, "Commercial pilots and above are trained to fly at night, and if it is dark enough on the path of totality and you are landing or taking off, it may be similar to a nighttime takeoff or landing."

"But your private pilots are not always trained for night operations."

He said that pilots flying toward the sun during the eclipse will only need to take the usual precautions to ensure they do not accidentally damage their eyes, such as putting the sun visor down.
