Eligible parents in Canada for the Canadian Child Benefit (CCB) will receive the first payment for 2025 within a week, as funds will be added to their accounts on Monday, January 20.
Increase in the Child Benefit for 2024-2025
With the start of the new fiscal year in July 2024, the Canadian Child Benefit has increased by 4.7% to assist families in coping with rising living costs.
• For children under six: the maximum benefit has increased from $7,437 to $7,787 annually (an increase of $350).
• For children aged 6 to 17: the maximum benefit has increased from $6,275 to $6,570 annually (an increase of $295).
What’s Next?
• In July 2025, the Child Benefit will see an additional increase of 2.7%.
• Children under six will receive an annual benefit of $7,997 (monthly $666).
• Children aged 6 to 17 will receive $6,748 annually (monthly $562).
• The annual disability benefit will also increase from $3,322 to $3,411 starting July 2025.
• All these benefits are granted tax-free.
Additional Benefits for British Columbia (B.C.) Families
• Families in British Columbia can benefit from the regional family benefit which includes a semi-annual bonus.
• The maximum annual benefit includes:
• $2,188 for the first child.
• $1,375 for the second child.
• $1,125 for each additional child.
How to Check Your Eligibility?
To check if you are eligible for the updated Child Benefit, you can take the eligibility test on the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) website.
Payment Dates for 2025
In addition to the January payment, the CRA provides a complete schedule of expected payment dates for 2025 to facilitate financial planning for families.
