Canada listed the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization yesterday, Wednesday, urging its citizens to leave Iran.
Canadian Public Security Minister Dominic Leblanc said at a press conference: "Our government has made the decision to list the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist entity under the Criminal Code."
The decision came after months of pressure from the Association of Victims of the Ukrainian Plane, and Iranians in Canada opposed to Tehran's policies, in addition to the Conservative Party.
The Canadian Parliament also unanimously approved on June 17 the "Tomaj" bill, which stipulates the inclusion of 31 judges, prosecutors, and investigators from the Iranian judiciary on the Canadian sanctions list.
The sanctions prohibit these judges, prosecutors, and investigators associated with the Iranian judiciary from residing in Canada or traveling to this country.
The Canadian Parliament considered that these judges played a role in suppressing the rights of citizens and demonstrators through sham trials and being responsible for torturing Iranian protesters.
