The Canadian Statistics Agency announced on Friday that Canada added 91,000 new jobs in December, reducing the unemployment rate by 0.1% to 6.7%, which is better than economic forecasts.
The education, transportation, and finance sectors saw the largest increases in job opportunities, with the public sector alone adding 40,000 jobs. Full-time employment also rose by 56,000 jobs.
The agency clarified that the employment rate increased for the first time since January 2023, noting a slowdown in population growth. Meanwhile, private sector employment saw a slight change with an increase of 27,000 jobs, while self-employment rose for the first time since February with the addition of 24,000 new jobs.
