Brittney Spears denied rumors about her new album and pledged to "never return to the music industry."

Meanwhile, Spears pointed out in her Instagram post on Wednesday that she is still "only writing music for other people," and said, "When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people!!!" "I have written more than 20 songs for other people in the past two years!!! I am a songwriter and I honestly enjoy that!!!"

The Instagram comment, in which she criticized those who "keep saying I'm approaching random people to make a new album," was accompanied by an image of Guido Reni's painting of Salome holding the head of John the Baptist.

This is not the first time Spears has announced her retirement from releasing her own music. In July 2021, while she was still under the notorious conservatorship that controlled her life, money, and voice for nearly 14 years, her long-time manager Larry Rudolph resigned, saying she did not intend to resume her career. After her release from the conservatorship later that year, she turned to Instagram to say she was scared of the music field and that not writing her own music was a challenge to her family.

But the following year, she released the single "Hold Me Closer," in collaboration with Elton John, which spent 20 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at number six. And last year, the single "Mind Your Business," a single with will.i.am, was poorly reviewed and failed to challenge the Hot 100, despite that. Spears' last full album was "Glory" in 2016.

In Wednesday's post, Spears also wrote that the rumor about releasing her bestselling 2023 memoir, "The Woman In Me," without her consent is not true.
