Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir stated that he does not have the ability to stop the ongoing deal with Hamas, pointing out that he strongly opposes it but lacks the necessary tools to disrupt it.
Ben Gvir said: “I have expressed my opposition to this deal from the beginning, and I believe it poses a significant danger to Israel's security and future. But the final decision is not up to me; it rests with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.”
He added that the deal includes significant concessions that may encourage Hamas to continue holding prisoners and exerting pressure on Israel in the future, emphasizing that he will continue to voice his stance within the government.
This statement comes amid widespread controversy within Israeli political circles regarding the deal, which is expected to include the release of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas. The Israeli government is facing internal and external pressures to reach an agreement that ensures the return of the hostages, amidst a sharp divide between supporters and opponents of the deal.
