The US House of Representatives voted against approving a $17.6 billion aid package for Israel opposed by President Joe Biden because he insists that this money be linked to aid for Ukraine.

There is a battle in Congress between the Republicans and the Democratic president regarding US aid.

While conservative parliamentarians, most of whom are close to former President Donald Trump, want to spend new funds for Israel at any cost, they reject approving new funds for Kyiv, considering that American taxpayers are not responsible for financing a war that keeps dragging on.

Recognizing that the Ukrainian issue is no longer considered urgent in Washington as it was at the beginning of the Russian attack on Ukraine, Biden has been demanding since October that the funds be spent for both Tel Aviv and Kyiv within one bill.

To confront Biden's attempt to merge these two aids together, the Republicans in the House of Representatives referred a text to a vote that approves aid for Israel only.

The text would have provided Israel with military aid amounting to $17.6 billion, but 167 Democratic representatives voted "No" after Biden threatened to use his veto power against this text.

Also, 13 Republican representatives voted against the text because it did not include budget-related measures.
