Jill Stein, the candidate for the upcoming U.S. presidential election, emphasized the need to direct billions of dollars provided as military aid to Israel to meet the basic needs of Americans.
Stein, the Green Party candidate, clarified that the United States bears part of the responsibility for the violence in Gaza, which is fueled by pro-Israel biases in media and politics. She pointed out that politicians have received significant financial support from pro-Israel political action committees to support the war.
She added: "The United States provides 80% of the weapons used to kill innocent civilians and supports Israel financially, militarily, diplomatically, and intelligence-wise, thus bearing significant responsibility in this conflict."
Stein noted that this is not just Israel's war but also America's, and voters should reject support for "genocide." She asserted that the situation in Gaza represents a serious crisis that threatens to undermine international law and human rights.
She stressed that violating human rights and international law will ultimately lead to negative consequences for the United States, and this deterioration cannot be overlooked.
As an American Jew, Stein supported the two-state solution but criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's policies, describing his government as "fascist" and accusing it of genocide. She urged the need to distinguish between criticizing Israeli policies and anti-Semitism.
Stein also called for the United States and the Israeli government to adhere to international law, emphasizing the necessity to end the conflict and return to the borders of 1967.
Regarding U.S. aid to Israel, Stein criticized the legislation that allocates $12.5 billion in military aid to Israel, arguing that this money should be used to improve the lives of Americans by providing healthcare, education, and creating job opportunities.
