Amazon has announced its decision to end all of its operations in the Canadian province of Quebec, which will lead to the layoff of more than 1,700 workers.
According to the statement issued by the company, this decision came after a strategic review of its operations in the region, noting that the step was taken "to adapt the business model to current economic conditions."
It is noteworthy that Amazon's warehouses in Quebec played an important role in fulfilling customer orders in the province, and with their closure, it is expected that the laid-off employees will face challenges in finding alternative job opportunities.
In contrast, the decision has sparked widespread reactions from unions and local officials who have called for measures to support the affected workers and address the impact of the closure on the local economy.
