First, we welcome you to this long-awaited meeting as we consider you an educated, conscious, well-read person who follows events and developments whether in the Canadian arena or even the Arab and international levels; in addition to being a smooth personality in dealing and widely respected by all who know you.
Canada is the country that provides many job opportunities for those who dare, and I think that individuals in general and the Arab community in particular should take advantage of the opportunities available to them and not hesitate, and this is the approach we followed in our practical journey with Adonis.
Therefore, I am happy to host you today in the "Eye on the Community" corner as a successful Arab female model who was able to integrate into Canadian society and make a clear mark in Canadian life by participating in the success of the largest commercial stores in my provinces of Quebec and Ontario in general, so I ask you to introduce yourself to the members of the Arab community.
A. I am Lebanese by origin, I came from a small village called Damour, which is located on the Mediterranean Sea coast. I left my country because of the tragic war and immigrated to Canada in 1990 to join my brothers and cousins who had come to Canada before me.
Q. How did the Adonis story begin?
A. The story began when Mr. Jamil and Ali Shaib arrived in Canada fleeing the war that swept their home country Lebanon. They decided with Mr. George Gharib to open a small store where the members of the Arab community could find what suits their needs and requirements of Arabic and Lebanese products in the diaspora.
Q. Surely you and your family had certain ambitions when you came to Canada, did you find the right environment in Canada to achieve your ambitions?
A. Canada is the country that provides many job opportunities for those who dare, and I think that individuals in general and members of the Arab community in particular should take advantage of the available opportunities and not hesitate, and this is the path we followed in our work journey with Adonis.
It is true that we cannot abandon our roots, but this country has given us many things that are not available in our countries.
Q. What challenges did you face upon your arrival in Canada and how did you overcome them?
A: The challenges are the same that all newcomers to this region face, which are represented by the ability to adapt to the cold weather first, then to get to know the systems and laws legislated and enacted by the country, and we had to start from scratch, as we faced a big challenge because our country was suffering the ravages of civil war.
Q. Could you tell us about your scientific experience and how you were able to apply it in your work until you reached this position?
A. In addition to my degree from Lebanon, I studied in Canada and obtained a university degree in the field of marketing, and this helped me a lot in the work field.
Q. Many members of the Arab community fear integration into Canadian society, but you are among those who were able to pave the way and were successful models in this regard. What would you like to say to them about this matter?
A. It is true that we cannot abandon our roots, but this country has given us many things that are not available in our countries such as reassurance and safety, and in return, we must work with all our energies to reciprocate kindness with kindness. We believe in this matter, and therefore, as long as a person believes in the idea, they will not find any difficulty in achieving related matters, and practically, we are in our country, so I find this matter natural and an obligation on every newcomer to this country so that they can successfully pave their way without any unnecessary complications.
Q. Many members of the community avoid starting any project for fear of failure and loss, what advice do you give members of the community in this regard, or even any Arab investor who wants to start a project in Canada?
A: The fact is that many members of the Arab community are experienced and highly cultured, and they have contributed significantly to the development of the economy in this country. I am full of confidence and hope that they will continue moving forward in this direction and succeed.
Q. Through Arab Canada newspaper, what would you like to say to the members of the Arab community, especially women, as you are an example of a successful Arab woman?
A. I say that the Arab woman must be confident in herself and prove that she is capable of succeeding in all fields, while respecting the principles and values we were raised on.
Q. What is your opinion about Arab Canada newspaper, and do you think it has been able to play a positive and constructive role among the members of the community and business owners from the Arab community?
Your honorable newspaper is the voice of all members of the Arab community and it always issues interesting, cultural, social, and even entertainment topics.
