The Israeli Foreign Ministry announced the summoning of the Armenian ambassador "to reprimand him severely" after his country recognized Palestine.

Reuters reported in a breaking news story, citing the Armenian Foreign Ministry, that Yerevan announced the recognition of the State of Palestine.

Three European countries, namely Ireland, Spain, and Norway, announced last month the recognition of the State of Palestine, followed by Slovenia.

With Armenia's recognition, the number of countries that have recognized the State of Palestine has risen to 149 out of 193 member states in the United Nations General Assembly, including most countries in the Global South, as well as Russia, China, and India. However, only a few of the 27 European Union member countries recognize Palestine as a state, most of which are formerly communist, in addition to Sweden and Cyprus.

Palestine has observer state status in the United Nations but is not a member, according to a UN General Assembly resolution on November 29, 2012.
