Local officials announced on Sunday that a landslide occurred in southwestern Congo due to heavy rainfall, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 people and leaving up to 60 others missing.
Seven people were found alive after the landslide that took place on Saturday near the port close to the town of Ediofa.
Didhe Mobasa, the elected local deputy, told reporters on Sunday: "There is a hill above the port, and the rain caused the soil to collapse from the hill."
The acting provincial governor, Felicien Kiwai, told reporters that a team had been sent to assist in the search for survivors, and seven people were found alive and transported to the hospital. He added that 60 other people are still missing.
The local official confirmed that it is difficult to determine the exact number of missing persons because the area was used as a market every Saturday. The official described the area as a port where fishermen come to sell fish and buy soap.
