The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said: Children in the Gaza Strip suffer from malnutrition and need supplementary nutritional treatments, pointing out that these treatments exist but cannot be safely distributed.

Tedros, during a press conference today, Thursday, expressed the organization's concern about the ongoing military operation inside and around the Al-Shifa medical complex in Gaza, noting that a mission planned for today to the complex was canceled due to a lack of security, confirming that access to it has become impossible, highlighting reports of detention and arrest of healthcare workers at the complex.

He pointed out that the health system continues to deteriorate, noting that the organization and partners have led dangerous missions to deliver treatments, fuel, and food to healthcare workers and patients, but most of these missions were obstructed or denied.

He continued: Children in Gaza are dying due to a combination of malnutrition, diseases, and lack of drinking water and sanitation, warning that there is a future for an entire generation of children at risk.

He confirmed that recent efforts to deliver food aid by air or sea drops are "welcomed," but emphasized that expanding the number of crossings and land routes is what can allow aid to reach Gaza on a large scale to prevent famine.

He pointed out that the World Health Organization had supported the establishment of a nutritional stabilization center at Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza, to treat children suffering from severe malnutrition and who face imminent death if not urgently treated, adding that the organization supports establishing another center at one of the field hospitals in Rafah and is training healthcare workers on how to recognize and treat malnutrition.

The director of the organization called on Israel to open more crossings and accelerate the entry of aid to Gaza, demanding the protection of medical facilities and healthcare workers as well as the non-militarization of these facilities, calling for the release of the "hostages" and an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
