The company responsible for the Eagle gold mine near Mayo, Yukon, stated that it may not have the necessary funds to address the impacts of the filtration failure.

In a statement released by Victoria Gold Corp on Friday, the company also mentioned that it may never reopen.

"The company cannot guarantee obtaining the necessary licenses from the government to resume production or that the company will have the financial resources needed to repair the damage done to the equipment and facilities, address the impacts of the incident, or resume production."

The company also detailed the mine's infrastructure that was affected by the failure, including the heap leach pad itself, pipes, pumping, liners, and two short sections of fixed conveyors, along with some electrical infrastructure.

It also stated that with production suspended, it "will continue working to minimize environmental impacts, with employee safety being the top priority."

The failure at the mine site last month resulted in a landslide that tore apart part of the mine's heap leach pad used to process ore and extract gold.

According to the company, it cannot reopen without permission from the Yukon minerals manager.

The statement also included information about its water samples, indicating that only the water samples taken from Haggart Creek on July 2 contained cyanide. The latest samples included date back to July 4.

The message read: "As of July 4, 2024, and based on the results of the final samples... the company did not exceed its water quality goals at the discharge point according to its water use license."
