The Lebanese Internal Security Forces announced today, Saturday, August 4, 2023, that many Syrians in Lebanon have been subjected to kidnapping operations at the border.
The security forces stated in a statement: "Recently, many Syrians residing in Lebanese territory have been subjected to kidnappings at the Syrian-Lebanese border," noting that the kidnappers are demanding "a financial ransom from their families in exchange for their release, in addition to being subjected to beatings and torture, with some reportedly having lost their lives at the hands of the kidnappers."
It also pointed out that the Internal Security Forces had previously followed up on this file, and at earlier dates, arrested individuals from networks and gangs carrying out these operations.
The statement added: "The information branch found that members of the aforementioned kidnapping networks lure their victims from among the Syrians to the Lebanese-Syrian border in several ways, including, for example, social media pages, especially the 'TikTok' application."
