Dozens of actors and artists in Hollywood, including comedian Jon Stewart and Oscar-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix, sent a message to U.S. President Joe Biden urging him to push for a ceasefire in the Middle East.
These celebrities wrote to Biden saying, "We urge your administration and all world leaders to respect all lives in the holy lands and to call for and facilitate a ceasefire without delay - to end the bombing of Gaza, and to ensure the safe release of hostages."
They also said in the letter, "We refuse to tell future generations the story of our silence and that we stood by and did nothing. As the UN's emergency relief coordinator Martin Griffiths said to UN News, 'history is watching.'"
Among the nearly 60 signers of the letter were Susan Sarandon, Kristen Stewart, Quinta Brunson, Ramy Youssef, Riz Ahmed, Mahershala Ali, and others.
The letter stated, "Humanitarian aid must be allowed to reach them (the people of Gaza)."
