The Cypriot authorities arrested one person and detained three others for questioning, following an explosion that occurred early Saturday morning near the Israeli embassy in the capital, Nicosia.
An ongoing Cypriot media report mentioned that a suspicious object was found about 30 meters from the embassy building, alongside an explosive material that had detonated without causing any damage to the building or the surrounding area.
Immediately after the incident, police and bomb disposal teams rushed to the site to examine the evidence and search for any suspects.
Reports also indicated that the police observed the presence of two individuals at the incident site, as well as a vehicle occupied by two other individuals. After searching the vehicle, the police found two knives and a hammer, which led to the arrest of the vehicle owner (21 years old) on charges of weapon possession. The police sealed off the area around the incident location.
It is noted that all four suspects are of Syrian origin.
