Activists on social media circulated a video of an Egyptian journalist named Rahma Zain, who directed sharp criticisms at CNN reporter Clarissa Ward, at the Egyptian-Palestinian border in front of the Rafah crossing with the Gaza Strip on Friday, October 20, 2023, criticizing the editorial policy of the American network as well as other Western media outlets that are biased towards the Israeli occupation at the expense of the Palestinian people.

The young Egyptian Rahma Zain expressed her anger at the double standards of Western media, while mainstream media continues to promote Israeli propaganda and obscure the reality of what is happening in Gaza.

Rahma Zain, who works as the editor-in-chief of the Egyptian website "Scope Empire," which operates in English, and is a former correspondent for Egyptian television, criticized the CNN news reporter, who has been disseminating misleading videos through CNN to support Israel.

The Egyptian journalist said to the American CNN reporter: "I understand that you represent your government and its policies, which claim to support freedom of expression and freedom of opinion, but you understand the meaning of democracy only in the way you want, and you treat principles in accordance with your own interests only.. and now we see the results of your occupation, and we witness the results of your Zionism and the results of your poor expression regarding Arabs.. We see your inhumane treatment of Arabs and your condescending view of them."

Rahma Zain added: "I don't want you to bring your cameras for me to speak, but give me an answer to my questions.. I want to know from you as a human why you do this.. and the truth is, you do not understand that the impact of what you are doing is an actual catastrophe."

She continued her speech in a strong tone, saying: "Now we see the results of your occupation and we witness the results of your Zionism.. and we see your poor expression regarding Arabs.. and your inhumane treatment of Arabs and your condescending view of them.. We stand by the Palestinians and Arabs, you are trying to change the facts, because you own them, that is your problem.. Where are our voices? They should be heard as well.. We used to watch your channel and instead of mourning and grieving for our victims and these Palestinian children, we had to deal with further means to strip Arabs of their humanity, which is a real disaster."

Rahma Zain's video gained significant popularity on social media platforms and saw a large interaction, amid the ongoing Israeli violations in Gaza and the martyrdom of hundreds of Palestinians at the hands of the Israeli war machine.

It is noteworthy that on the dawn of October 7, the "Hamas" movement and other Palestinian factions in Gaza launched "Operation Al-Aqsa Flood," in response to "the continuous assaults of Israeli forces and settlers against the Palestinian people, their properties, and their sanctities, especially the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem."

In turn, the Israeli army launched "Operation Iron Swords," and continues to conduct intensive airstrikes on several areas in Gaza, which is home to more than two million Palestinians suffering from deteriorating living conditions, due to an ongoing Israeli siege since 2006.
