The spokesperson for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees "UNRWA," Kazem Abu Khalaf, called today, Monday, for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip so that relief institutions can respond to the Palestinians.

Abu Khalaf said in a press statement that the Gaza Strip is facing a disaster, and a ceasefire must be achieved so that we can provide humanitarian response to the Palestinians in the strip, noting that there are many places in the Gaza Strip that relief institutions cannot reach amid the continued Israeli bombing operations.

The number of martyrs due to the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank has exceeded 19,100, and the wounded are nearly 55,000, since the aggression began on the seventh of last October, according to the latest official update.

For his part, Dr. Mustafa Barghouti, Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative, stressed in a press statement the need to link any humanitarian truce between Israel and the Palestinian resistance to a full and comprehensive ceasefire.

He added that the Gaza Strip is currently experiencing a real famine due to the lack of food or potable water due to Israel’s obstruction of the full entry of aid into the strip," while emphasizing the severity of the conditions inside Gaza’s hospitals.

Barghouti explained that the occupation still dreams, through escalating military operations on Gaza, of implementing the ethnic cleansing plan and forcing the residents of the strip to leave their lands and emigrate, pointing to the martyrdom of a number of Palestinian prisoners in the occupation’s prisons.

The Palestinian official accused the United States of participating in managing the war on Gaza, stressing the severe consequences that have returned to Washington as a result of its supportive stance towards Israel amid the occupation committing heinous crimes against humanity in Gaza.

On the other hand, Italy confirmed that it supports the resolution that the UAE and the United States will present today, Monday, to the United Nations Security Council to stop the firing and allow aid into the Gaza Strip.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani expressed in his speech during the opening of the ambassadors' conference at the Foreign Ministry headquarters today his hope that the United Nations can adopt this document today, reiterating his belief in the benefit of dialogue to solve problems, according to the Italian news agency "AKI."

The United Nations Security Council announced that it will return today to vote on a resolution drafted by the United Arab Emirates calling for an immediate ceasefire in the war between Israel and the "Hamas" movement, allowing humanitarian aid to reach Gaza and the release of all hostages.

In a related context, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak intensified his call to Israel for a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza and to allow humanitarian aid to reach the residents of the strip, adding that many lives have been lost during the ongoing conflict there.

Sunak said in press statements during his current trip to Scotland that the ongoing attacks carried out by Israel against the Palestinians risk igniting the conflict for another 50 years, according to what was reported by the British newspaper The Independent on its website.

He also pointed out that many civilian lives have been lost during this period and "no one wants to see this conflict continue longer than necessary," according to him.

It is noteworthy that Sunak’s statements came at a time when Mr. Sunak’s former defense minister, Ben Wallace, warned that the “rage of indiscriminate killing” practiced by Israel in Gaza exposes it to the risk of losing legitimate authority in the conflict.
