It was a busy weekend for the Ontario Provincial Police in the central region, where officers issued 1,328 charges during Thanksgiving, most related to speeding violations, as the Provincial Police cover the Barrie, Orillia, Bracebridge, and Collingwood area. The police, who were patrolling roads, corridors, bridges, and highways during the long weekend, issued 1328 tickets, including 782 related to speeding, 72 charges under the mandatory automobile insurance law, 31 charges for not wearing seat belts, 28 for impaired driving, along with other charges.

In the same context, the police said that the enforcement was part of an annual road safety campaign involving targeted enforcement and education about speeding, seat belts, distracted driving, and drugs or alcohol, adding that excessive speed and dangerous driving still threaten the safety of all road users and that drivers must take all precautions to ensure their safety and the safety of others and return safely to their families. Also, the number of fatalities on roads patrolled by police in the central region reached 50 victims by the beginning of October, an increase of nearly 50 percent compared to last year, which is a frightening number that continues to rise annually according to reports.
