Israeli media reported that the bomb that led to the assassination of the late head of Hamas's political office, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran was planted hours before his assassination by two agents of the Revolutionary Guard recruited by Mossad, according to what was reported by "Sky News Arabia."
The assassination of Haniyeh in Tehran raised questions about the Iranian security and intelligence system, especially since the incident comes amid a long list of assassinations of Iranian figures or those connected to Iran inside and outside the country, according to the BBC.
Haniyeh was assassinated on Wednesday, July 31, while he was in the capital Tehran to attend the inauguration of the new president, Masoud Bezhkian.
Iran and Hamas quickly accused Israel, which, for its part, did not comment on the accusation, while some readings directed fingers at the Israeli intelligence agency (Mossad) directly.
The American site "Axios" quoted two sources described as knowledgeable, stating that Mossad "blew up a bomb that was planted in Haniyeh's room" at his official residence in the Iranian capital Tehran.
The assassination of Haniyeh in Tehran came just twelve hours after Israel assassinated senior Hezbollah leader Fouad Shukr in an airstrike carried out by an Israeli drone in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital Beirut.
In an article published by the American magazine "Foreign Policy," Mor-Gilbert referred to statements made by Israeli politicians following the October 7 attacks that Hamas leaders are "dead men walking."
