Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to travel to San Francisco in the United States next week to attend the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.
Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly and International Trade Minister Mary Ng are also expected to participate in the visit, which will take place from November 15 to 17.
A statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office also indicated that Trudeau is focusing on ways to encourage climate-friendly economic development among Canada's allies and partners.
The Canadian delegation will also discuss how to facilitate trade, identify opportunities in the digital space, and enhance women's economic empowerment.
Trudeau also pledged to strengthen open economic cooperation and remove trade barriers for the benefit of people on both sides of the Pacific Ocean.
As with previous Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings, this year's summit – which will run from November 11 to 17 – is expected to see large public protests on issues such as climate change and income inequality.
Trudeau said in a press statement: "When we open new markets for Canadian goods and innovations, and ensure that the world can invest in Canada, we achieve real results for the middle class. By working together, we will create new opportunities for our workers and businesses, make progress in our fight against climate change, and drive economic growth that works for everyone."
As the host country leader, President Joe Biden will preside over the main event next week, which is the meeting of economic leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
