Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that allegations of a toxic workplace culture, including harassment and sexual assault at the Canadian intelligence agency, are "devastating" and "completely unacceptable."
Meanwhile, four officers from the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) made allegations and said that the office in British Columbia is a toxic workplace.
A female officer at CSIS also said she was raped nine times by a senior colleague while in surveillance vehicles, and another said she was sexually assaulted by the same man, despite warnings from their superiors that the man should be kept away from younger women.
Trudeau, who was in Ajax, Ontario, for a separate announcement, said these allegations are deeply concerning.
He also added that the government needs to ensure the protection of all people in every workplace - regardless of how sensitive or secretive their work is - especially for those who serve their country.
Trudeau and his minister said the entire government is following such issues very closely.
