Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau criticized his competitor, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, over his proposed bill to prevent minors “underage” from accessing pornographic sites in Canada.

Trudeau said in this regard that under Poilievre’s bill, it could lead to the introduction of a digital identity for adults who tend to browse certain sites.

Trudeau added during his presence in Nova Scotia that it is better to work on providing their identities and personal data

through websites, or creating a digital identity for adults, instead of focusing on defending the protection of children through these legislations.

On another note, Poilievre had confirmed that his party supports a bill that requires pornographic sites to verify the age of the user, and that a Conservative government will work in the future to legislate this law.

The bill was approved in the Senate, and the New Democrats, the Quebec Bloc, and Conservative MPs voted for the bill to be sent to the House of Commons committee for review and study, while most Liberals voted against it.

It is worth mentioning that the Conservatives stated that they support the bill; children should not be able to freely access pornographic websites online, and Poilievre stated that Trudeau’s statements are part of his authoritarian agenda and his suppression of freedom of expression.
