Canada has witnessed a significant boom in precious metals and petroleum mining in recent years, where the "mining boom" has led to a division among the population in the eastern part of the country.
The province of Quebec is also witnessing a high demand for raw materials, especially graphite and phosphate, for the production of electric car batteries. All of this has led to the issuance of tens of thousands of mining exploration permits.
Within just a few months, exploration requests have increased, surprising residents whose homes and gardens sometimes lie in potential exploration sites.
In Quebec, for less than $75, anyone can obtain a license to explore an area of up to 50 hectares, using an online registry managed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests.
Under these circumstances, NGOs and collectors are calling for urgent regulation of the mining exploration sector.
