Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called today, Wednesday, for a humanitarian ceasefire in the conflict in Gaza to allow the release of all hostages.
Trudeau also told reporters that "Canada calls for a major humanitarian ceasefire in the conflict in Gaza to allow the release of all hostages."
Earlier, John Kirby, the strategic policy coordinator at the U.S. National Security Council, said that Washington does not currently support a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Kirby explained during a press conference: "We do not think a ceasefire is right ... Hamas would benefit from it," and continued, "What should be considered are periods of humanitarian ceasefire."
Regarding the Israeli ground assault on the Gaza Strip, Kirby said that the United States "understands Israel's pursuit of Hamas leaders on the ground."
