Regardless of what meteorologists may say, winter is not over yet.
Toronto and most of Ontario are currently experiencing a severe cold spell of winter weather, according to Environment Canada.
The National Weather Service issued a severe cold warning on Thursday for a large area of the country, including the GTA region.
While the temperature in Toronto stabilized at around 1 degree Celsius on Thursday afternoon, it is expected to drop at night.
Environment Canada said: "Following the onset of a strong cold front, wind chills are expected to reach minus 30 tonight until Friday morning."
Explaining that "after moderate temperatures during Friday day.
The temperature with the wind may reach minus 30 again Friday night until early Saturday morning." The agency advised people to cover any exposed skin to avoid frostbite, which can develop within minutes.
It also warned that the risks of severe cold are greater for young children, the elderly, those with chronic illnesses, those without proper shelter, and those who work or exercise outdoors.
Adding, "With the wind, temperatures can drop to minus 31 degrees Celsius, and this is certainly dangerous, causing body temperature to drop and frostbite within minutes."
"Therefore, it is very dangerous."
